Gravel Driveway Cost Calculator
Price a two-layer gravel driveway scenario without hiding depth, density, delivery, or labor assumptions.
- Driveway area
- 720 ft²
- Base aggregate
- 19.8 US tons
- Surface gravel
- 6.27 US tons
- Materials
- $1,006.50
- Sitework
- $1,440.00
- Delivery
- $350.00
- Scenario total
- $2,796.50
Densities and prices are user inputs. A supplier may price by a different ton, apply minimum loads, or recommend different compacted layer depths.
Show calculation
19.8 tons × $35.00 + 6.27 tons × $50.00 + 720 ft² × $2.00 + $350.00 = $2,796.50Transparent method and editable product assumptions. Verify current labels and project requirements.

How this calculator works
Base and surface layers each use driveway area, entered loose depth and material-specific bulk density to estimate US tons. One order allowance applies to both quantities.
Each layer is priced separately. Sitework uses an entered square-foot rate and delivery remains a fixed line item so minimum loads and split deliveries are visible.
Compacted design depth is not automatically the same as loose order depth. Confirm gradation, compaction, excavation, geotextile, drainage and delivery units locally.
Formula
Total = base tons × base price + surface tons × surface price + area × sitework rate + deliveryThe live result exposes both tonnage calculations.Control example: 60 × 12 ft driveway
Use a 6 in base at 100 lb/ft³ and 2 in surface at 95 lb/ft³, both with 10% allowance.
The calculator returns separate base and surface tonnage, then prices materials, $/ft² sitework and delivery.
Assumptions and limits
- Enter supplier-confirmed loose-order depths, bulk densities, ton basis, delivered prices, minimum loads and contractor sitework scope.
- Measurements describe one simple project geometry.
- Waste and package values are editable planning assumptions.
- It is not a pavement design, compaction specification, drainage plan, local quote, tax estimate, or guaranteed installed cost.
Common measuring mistakes
- Mixing nominal dimensions with actual installed coverage.
- Skipping whole-package or stock-length rounding.
- Failing to verify the page’s stated measurement and product assumptions.
- Using a planning estimate outside the limitations stated on this page.

Questions people ask
What does the Gravel Driveway Cost Calculator calculate?
Estimate gravel driveway cost with separate base and surface layers, user-entered densities, prices per ton, delivery, and sitework.
How does this gravel driveway cost calculator work?
Total = base tons × base price + surface tons × surface price + area × sitework rate + delivery
Which measurements should I enter?
Enter supplier-confirmed loose-order depths, bulk densities, ton basis, delivered prices, minimum loads and contractor sitework scope.
Does the estimate include every project requirement?
No. It is not a pavement design, compaction specification, drainage plan, local quote, tax estimate, or guaranteed installed cost.
Can I use metric measurements?
Yes. Switch to Metric above the form. The calculator converts the displayed measurements while keeping the same geometry and whole-item rounding.
