This calculator uses the supplier’s stated area covered by one US short ton for the selected rock size and installation depth. That workflow reflects how decorative landscape rock is often quoted.
The area is increased once by your extra-material allowance and divided by coverage. The result stays in clearly labeled 2,000 lb US short tons, with a mass-based bag comparison.
A separate area × depth volume is shown as a cross-check. It does not override supplier coverage, because rock size, grading, voids, and material condition change the weight-to-volume relationship.
