How this calculator works

Each wall group is converted to a whole number of full-height strips. The tool does not deduct doors or windows automatically because a full drop is normally cut across them; true savings require a piece-level layout.

Free match places drops back-to-back. Straight match advances the roll until each drop begins on the same repeat phase. Half-drop alternates phase by half a repeat and simulates the cuts sequentially, opening a new roll when the next aligned drop will not fit.

Physical roll width and length control the calculation. Retail terms such as single or double roll are not enough without dimensions. The optional second wall group lets different heights share the same sequential roll plan; A/B-roll systems and murals remain separate product workflows.

Control example: 4 m × 2.4 m wall

A 0.5 m roll width needs 8 strips. With 0.1 m total trim, each drop is 2.5 m.

A 10 m free-match roll fits 4 drops, so 2 rolls. With a 0.64 m straight repeat, aligned drops pack 3 per roll, so 3 rolls.

Assumptions and limits

  • Walls in a group share one height.
  • Rolls begin at a confirmed zero phase.
  • Half-drop means an offset of one-half repeat.
  • Offcuts are not globally optimized or reused across arbitrary wall pieces.

Common measuring mistakes

  • Dividing wall area by roll area and ignoring full-height strips.
  • Subtracting every window as if it saved complete drops.
  • Using “double roll” without entering physical dimensions.
  • Treating A/B rolls or murals as a generic half-drop pattern.
