How this calculator works

The calculator divides each eave by the panel system’s installed coverage width and rounds to complete columns. It separately divides the slope by usable panel length so a long slope cannot disappear inside an area-only estimate.

The resulting grid is multiplied by matching roof planes, then a user-controlled panel allowance is applied. End-lap length appears as a planning cross-check when more than one row is required.

Product engineering still controls actual panel length, sidelaps, endlaps, clips, fasteners, expansion, penetrations, flashing and wind design.

Control example: 30 × 16 ft gable roof

Two planes use 36-inch coverage panels and a usable 20-foot stock length.

Each plane needs 10 columns and one row. With 10% allowance: ceil(10 × 1 × 2 × 1.10) = 22 panels.
